Hidden Gem-Oak Park Arts District

The city of Oak Park is known for its bustling downtown area. However, there is another shopping district worth checking out, the Oak Park Arts District. Located on Harrison Street, and spans the distance in the nine blocks west of Austin. The district is easily accessible via the CTA Blue Line.

The Oak Park Arts District boasts an abundance of art galleries and studios. From contemporary to textile arts there is something for everyone. It is also home to one of the areas oldest music and record stores, Val’s halla Records. Visitors can browse through a great selection of unique 45s, LPs, cassettes and CDs from all genres.

After exploring the area shops a little make sure to stop by one of the restaurants. Buzz Cafe is known for serving organic and locally grown foods. Eastgate Cafe offers diners a cafe/bistro ambiance. Enjoy rustic Italian cuisine at Trattoria 225.

The Oak Park Arts District is also home to annual special events. 3rd Fridays, gallery walks the third Friday of every month. A May outdoor festival, What’s Blooming on Harrison, a September Art Fair, Art on Harrison, and a Holiday Lights Celebration, which recently kicked off and will run through the end of December.
